Crib Mattress :: Types of Crib Mattresses

Types of Crib Mattresses

Planning to purchase a crib mattress for your baby? If so, it is important to know that there are many different options out there which are available for you to choose from. Here are just a few of the different types of crib mattresses that you may want to take into consideration.

Foam Crib Mattresses
Foam crib mattresses are one of the two main types of crib mattresses. One of the main reasons that they are so popular is because they tend to be lighter than the other main type of crib mattresses, which are innerspring or coil mattresses. Keep in mind that since foam crib mattresses do not contain any coils, their firmness is measured in terms of density. A foam crib mattress does not need to be thick, but it should be heavy for its size.

Portable Crib Mattresses

Portable crib mattresses cannot be used in all baby cribs. These crib mattresses can only be used in portable cribs because they are much smaller than ordinary crib mattresses. At the same time, it’s important to remember that only portable crib mattresses can be used in portable cribs.

Organic Crib Mattresses
To prevent your baby from the harmful chemicals that are used to create ordinary crib mattresses, you may want to think about purchasing an organic crib mattress. You will be able to reduce your baby’s risk of experiencing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Organic crib mattresses also tend to be a great hypoallergenic choice. If your family has a medical history that consists of childhood allergies, organic crib mattresses may be a great choice.

Round Crib Mattresses
Round crib mattresses can only be used in cribs which have been designed with a round shape. They will not fit in a traditionally shaped baby crib, much the same way that a traditionally shaped mattress would not fit inside a round crib.

Latex Crib Mattresses

Latex crib mattresses are another great choice for those interested in a hypoallergenic crib mattress. They have been designed to be resistant to mold, mildew, and dust - which all can affect your child’s allergies. Many of these crib mattresses are made from foam.

Tips For Purchasing Any Type of Crib Mattress
No matter what type of crib mattress you are interested in, there are two things that you will want to take into consideration when selecting a mattress.

Size: The first thing that you will want to take into consideration is the size of the crib mattress that you are purchasing. It is very easy to select the right size, since both cribs and crib mattresses come in standard sizes. No matter the type of crib mattress you are searching for, you will want to choose one that fits snugly.

Firmness: No matter what type of crib mattress you are purchasing, it is important to make sure that it provides enough support for your baby. It should not be too soft. Instead, you should try to opt for a fairly firm crib mattress.
